Utobia Studios Expands Horizons in South African Animation
Last month, I traveled to South Africa to share my experiences as a pioneering 2D animator from Lusaka, Zambia, at Open Window University. But that was just the beginning. I networked with the best in the animation and film industry in Johannesburg and Cape Town, connecting with Annie Award-winning studios and showcasing our portfolio to industry trailblazers.
I also had the privilege of sharing the opening anime song from our upcoming manga series, “We the Godless”, and was thrilled to receive enthusiastic feedback from industry peers.

The trip was a huge success for me, yielding valuable insights, collaborative opportunities, and validation of our mission to empower local artists. I gained exposure to industry trends, cutting-edge technologies, and effective storytelling techniques that will elevate our work.
I also solidified key partnerships and gained a deeper understanding of the African animation market, which will inform our future strategies. This experience reinforced my passion for empowering local artists and confirmed that we’re on the right path.
This experience will shape Utobia Studios’ future, as we:
- Implement new expertise
- Produce innovative projects
- Expand our team with skilled artists
- Forge lasting industry relationships
Our mission remains steadfast: cultivating a thriving 2D animation industry in Zambia, creating opportunities for numerous artists. We’re dedicated to mentoring emerging talent, producing high-quality content, and fostering industry growth.
